ISLAMIC STUDIES

The mission of Al-Huda is to empower the community through spiritually wholesome students. To this end, students are expected to learn and study the discipline of Islamic Studies. The Islamic Studies program is a comprehensive, extensive and advanced study of Islam. The purpose of the program is to instill the love of the Qur'an and Sunnah in students through knowledge and worship. Following our mission, it intends to not only make da'wa, inviting people to the way of Islam, to the students, but to teach the students how to make da'wa themselves and eventually become da'is, those who can teach others about Islam. It provides students with all the basic tools to be able to function as practicing Muslims in our society. It empowers them with the skill set and the know-how of ascertaining the knowledge and information , from authentic sources, that they may need in the future, outside of Al-Huda School.

The Islamic Studies curriculum is a comprehensive study, beginning from kindergarten to 12th grade. For grades 9-12, there is a heavier emphasis on analysis and in depth comprehension, not just rote memorization of facts. Four basic categories are addressed: (1)Aqeedah, those matters which are believed in, with certainty and conviction, in one's heart and soul. They are not tainted with any doubt or uncertainty ; (2)Fiqh, Islamic jurisprudence; (3)Seerah, the biography of Prophet Muhammad's life and all that relates to him; (4)Tazkiyah, purification of the soul. Topics include: (1)Tawheed- the oneness of Allah, (2) ibadaah- worship, (3) the 5 pillars of Islam, (4) the Seerah of the Prophet, the Khulafa Rashidoon(righteously guided leadership), and characteristics of Ahl al Sunnah wal Jama'ah.
